It might be a tourist mecca boasting vistas over St Paul’s and the City of London but, time it right, and you’ll be surprised by your uninterrupted viewpoint whilst enjoying a cocktail or three. Note to self: do not visit Madison on a weekday night from 6pm. This is when the City suits arrive in their droves and we feel the place tends to lose its edge, instead becoming a sea of ties sipping their Stella’s as the night draws in. But visit on a weekday lunch when the sun is shining and the rooftop opens up to become your very own alcoholic playground.
The cocktail menu is all you’d come to expect from a bar in the centre of the City; Pornstar and Espresso martinis all feature alongside the slightly spicier ‘Hot Bitch’ with passion fruit, chilli and red pepper. The slightly classier options include the ‘Rooftop’ (Hendricks gin with elderflower and prosecco) and the Citrus Mojito with rum and kumquats. However, the general essence of Madison is laid-back fun. This is not one for whisky connoisseurs to wile away an evening.
With music from their in-house DJ’s, your night here may be longer than expected. Luckily their bar snacks of truffle fries, buttermilk chicken and goat’s cheese popcorn will happily keep that stomach lined. Let the evening commence.
