Tucked away from the bustling masses in Covent Garden, the locals breathed a sigh of relief when Hawksmoor chose to open one of their outposts in Seven Dials. Behind the imposing, heavy doors of this former fruit warehouse lies an underground world of mahogany. Serving up a steak restaurant and cocktail bar, the veritable sea of dark wood lends itself to a cosy, settle-in-for-the-evening kind of night.
Will Beckett and Huw Gott’s ever-expanding empire now boasts five restaurants in London and one in Manchester. Renowned for their British grass-fed beef, this is the place to send any carnivore, working their way through T-bone steaks, Surf ‘n’ Turf and Chateaubriand; perhaps one to pack the Gaviscon. For those who prefer a lighter meal, never fear; the fish and chicken dishes are simply sublime. Served with a side portion of beef dripping fries or gravy and mash, you can’t really go wrong.
The cocktail bar is also worth an honourable mention. With the cocktail menu ranging from ‘Anti-Fogmatic’ to ‘Bridging Drinks’, the bar staff really know what they’re talking about. We worked our way through the perfect blend of drinks, with the ‘Sinking Spritz’ combining aperol with elderflower and Sauvignon Blanc. Served up in a delicate, short glass, it really did impress.
