Tuddenham Mill

We were slightly screaming out for a boutique hotel in this part of the Suffolk countryside and Tuddenham Mill doesn’t disappoint having been lovingly converted to this 15-bedroom retreat just outside of Newmarket. Amazingly the water mill is still working (a mill has stood on this spot for over 1,000 years) adding tenfold to the charm of the location.

This is super-slick hospitality at its best; each room boasts Bose sound systems and Loewe flatscreens so if either member of your party is a tech-loving slickster they’ll love it here. But they’ve made it a point to appeal to all even opening up the spaces with floor to ceiling glass doors and even welcoming your four-legged friends.

The restaurant is outstandingly good so you don’t need to venture far from your room to have all bases covered. They’ve been scooping up awards since they opened and source local produce wherever possible. Expect locally reared lamb, duck and quail to choose from or go for the £49.50 tasting menu and let them choose for you.
