With a name like The Black Pig with White Pearls it hardly conjures up Iberian hams and sherry selections but rest assured this gem is a Spanish pop-up done good. In fact The Black Pig is now firmly established as one of the best tapas restaurants on the edge of Dalston in trendy Stoke Newington. Head for early drinks in the upstairs bar which opens at 6 before settling in to order endless nibbling options centred around the succulent meat that is that of the Iberian black pig. Fed on an alarmingly healthy diet of barley and acorns and found in the southern regions of Spain, this is the best Iberico pork you’ll eat this side of Seville.
Don’t miss the octopus and paprika potato delight or the black squid ink rice with calamari and aioli. This is tapas but not as you know it. From its humble beginnings as an East London pop-up, the Black Pig is everything a neighbourhood restaurant should be. Open until midnight on Friday and Saturday expect a buzzy crowd who know how to eat and drink as well as one can when one doesn’t live in Spain.
