Lyme Bay is one of the most beautiful vistas on our shoreline. Imagine our excitement when we learnt the team who’d created the achingly cool Groucho Club had cast their eye over this part of the Dorset coast and declared their intention of adding a new version of coastal chic at The Seaside Boarding House. Expect Farrow & Ball’s elephants breath all over the rustic (read: achingly cool) rooms. The intention is to soak up their eye-wateringly beautiful surroundings rather than staying in your room all weekend. TV’s are only available on request and bedrooms are sold on an idea of ‘tranquility and calm’ (each of the rooms are ‘within sight or sound’ of the sea). Be sure to ask for one with the claw-footed bath.
There are no pretensions here though – with only 9 bedrooms you’ll feel instantly at home. Arrive to a seat on the terrace enjoyed with a glass of chilled Provençal pink before heading down to feel the sand in your toes all within an easy train ride from London.
They only opened in early 2015 but have picked up consistently rave reviews so it’s time to clear your diary an d get booked in. This is one version of the Groucho us civilians can get into.
