For the naval buffs amongst you (we’re looking at you Dad), steer them down the river towards The Old Brewery in Greenwich, a much 0verlooked but beautiful part of town that boasts views as fine as its history. Having cooked up a storm with Dan Doherty at the helm – him of Duck & Waffle fame – The Old Brewery has recently been acquired by Young’s, adding a superb collection of London brewed craft beers to its renowned spot on the food map. You’ll sit inside a rather splendid former Victorian brewery within Sir Christopher Wren’s Old Naval College or head outside onto their decked terrace for a drink. The only catch being there’s no actual river views.
However, by night, the former brew house is transformed into a stylish restaurant and the menu shows off all that English dining has to offer; prime hunks of british beef in brioche buns, chicken and ham hock pie with chorizo or venison and artichoke hotpot showcase superb ingredients in gorgeous surroundings. Finish off with one of their stupendously good puds; sharp English rhubarb, home-made salted caramel ice-cream and Earl Grey sticky toffee pudding all show off our British fare to its very best.
