This is the upstairs bar of Jason Atherton’s acclaimed Pollen Street Social sister restaurant, the Social Eating House. The Blind Pig to those in the know. And haven’t they done it well. With vintage leather and brass interiors, it conjures up 1930’s Americana with the comforting low-lighting that can only encourage a devilishly good time.
The drinks are simply fabulous. ‘Robin Hood, The Quince of Thieves’ comes with apple brandy, quince liqeur, honey mead and your own apple bullseye. The ‘Lime Leaf Side Car’ combines Martell VS cognac, kaffir lime leaf, lime, honey and egg white (and you may be surprised by the presentation as well). These are cocktails with a side dose of fun and come armed with a hearty menu; sides of hot dogs and Padron peppers, black pepper prawn crackers and beer-battered fish and chips will certainly line that stomach before you embark on a drinks marathon. You can even finish off with an Apple Smash sundae with apple sorbet and caramel ice-cream.
It also helps that all the clientele seem to be extremely good looking (the staff seem to have been pinched from a Burberry ad campaigns) making it no bad place to people watch. Take your mates, your date, your colleagues. Just prepare to fall in love.
