The key to visiting the Phene in London’s fashionable Chelsea is to picking a midweek night and settling into the ‘urban escape’ that is their rather swanky garden. Al fresco pubs are hard to come by in Chelsea and Fulham usually quickly turning into a mecca for smokers which makes one then rather avoid it like the plague. Luckily the interior far outweighs the exterior in colder moments and Although it has become quite the Chelsea institution full of the obligatory pretty young things – expect loud trouser wearing types bellowing their ‘Made in Chelsea’ moment of glory – the food and atmosphere more than makes up for this necessary downside. Cornish lobster and chips are a firm favourite and the Bloody Mary’s are excellent. In fact all elements to banish that hangover in one fail swoop. We’re really headed here though for the puddings with coconut and chocolate truffles and raspberry and prosecco sorbet reason enough to enter Chelsea.
