Once at Nighty Eight Bar & Lounge on Curtain Road, head down the winding staircase and you’re faced with a confused hybrid of bar interiors. Tables made from lego, a stuffed plastic chicken on the bar and a whole table dedicated to penny sweets and an entire room made out of bandages. It may sound like a film set but at least it’s unique. For fantastic people watching and a late night tipple (open until midnight on Wednesdays and Thursdays / 1AM at the weekends) this is one of our favourite hideouts for those in the know. This mad house was a Shoreditch members club for years but they luckily opened it up to us civilians to enjoy the world of wonder that lies in wait. The menu reads as quirky as the interiors so put tradition aside when ordering ‘Baked bean Delight’. We’re not sure either but with most of the gins infused by the owner, Kath, you won’t be disappointed.
