Tracking down ‘London’s Best Bars’ is tricky when all the watering holes have modestly given themselves the title to stand out from the crowd but Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar can happily sit high up on this list. How about drinking in the bar that is run by Diageo Reserve’s World Class Bartender of the Year with the possibility of being served by the man himself. Now we’re talking. Ali Reynolds has dreamt up some tongue-twisting concoctions in his time. The cocktail menu at The Hawksmoor’s Spitalfields Bar features the classic banana daiquiri and fun-sounding green & red margarita but their ‘Desert Island’ menu showcases drinks designed around a set of ‘expressions’ each served in an unusual way. The artiste meets the cocktail if you will.
Prepare for tequila, rhubarb cordial and Suze in Expression #4 or Aged rum, Café Eau de Vie, Lime, Absinthe and chocolate in Expression #2. Prepare to be amazed. Sided with pulled pork buns, triple cooked chips with lime pickle mayonnaise and crispy chilli beef and we’re sold.
