Whether you’re on the way home or falling out of Antico upstairs, 214 Bermondsey keeps it simple with gin classics. With a stripped-back, oh-so-trendy feel we were amazed it kept that welcoming feel. A stone’s throw from London Bridge, this is prohibition drinking at its best. Hidden beneath Antico (an Italian restaurant on Bermondsey Street) and open until 1.30AM at weekends, you’ll be tempted to stay until the wee hours having been lulled into ordering earl grey, peach and citrus punch bowls topped off with one of their 80 gin variations on offer. Most of of the menu is home-grown; “Honey, I Shrubbed the Fizz” combines lemon, honey and prosecco with a variation of superb gins or go for one of their nation-themed menus such as their ‘Yankee Doodle Dandee’ spicy drinks mixing juniper with lemongrass and bergamot. Making you feel part of the East London hipster crowd, you’ll feel rather authentic in the exposed brick, leathered seat surroundings.
