Snaps + Rye

Nestled on the edge of Notting Hill, Snaps + Rye is one of our favourite weekend haunts. Sitting without fanfare on the glorious Golborne Road, this modern restaurant whisks you away to all things Scandi in a blink of an eye.

On first glance, you’ll spot the much-coveted Danish kitchenware that’s on sale for diners and passing trade. The hygge-inspired crockery will make one weep at the thought of not being able to kit out the entirety of one’s home with it. Sure, you might end up surrounded by faintly pointless duck-egg blue salt pots, but boy won’t you be stylish (and broke). Instead we suggest you turn your attentions to the gloriously delicate open sandwiches on display. Home-cured herring sits atop daintily sliced tomatoes on a rich rye bread.

Founded by Danish-English husband and wife team Kell + Jacqueline Skött, they were inspired to create an entirely Danish experience. All the food is prepared in-house and is fresh as can be. Whether it’s eating the freshly baked sourdough bread, the rich and creamy kedgeree or tucking into the Danish meatballs, we loved every morsel. We’d highly recommend a lazy brunch (served 9AM – 3PM Tuesday to Sunday) but, seeing as they’re now open for dinner from Thursday – Saturday, we’d suggest booking in for a candlelit meal for two.
