Some spa hotels can be all black lacquer and hard edges or instead offer up the dreaded Laura Ashley curtains – neither help for when relaxing in style. You need somewhere to rest those cashmere tootsies. Enter Barnsley House which combines just the right mix of country house chic with super sleek touches. With the added bonus of not allowing children under the age of 14, this is the perfect retreat for those wishing to get away from it all with some guaranteed peace and quiet.
If you’re anything like us, you can get a little forgetful when travelling but you needn’t worry when arriving at Barnsley House. With Hunter wellies lining the staircase, umbrellas in the hallway and tennis rackets to borrow, you are instantly ready to stomp and play in the Cotswold countryside. Take high tea in the drawing room or spend the afternoon playing chess by the fire. Either way, this country house hotel is everything a weekend break should be.
The bedrooms are contemporary chic for their upmarket clientele, with LCD TV’s perfectly placed over their swanky bathtubs, but retain the feel of the private home it once was with vaulted wooden beams and creaking floorboards. Accessing the gardens or courtyards from some of the garden rooms only adds to the freedom of the place. Take a walk to the herb garden or visit their bubblegum pink private cinema (that shows Christmas films in December and serve up the obligatory popcorn if asked). Or head to the hidden spa to truly relax. The view from the hydrotherapy pool over beautifully designed gardens and roaring fires is a bit of a masterpiece and we loved the herbivarium to clear those groggy airways.
Barnsley House is offering Mensos Concierge guests a complimentary Afternoon Tea-for-Two when booking an overnight stay. Please contact us directly to book.
