The Cock and Bottle

When we heard that one of London’s best Sunday roasts was found tucked behind Westbourne Grove we were tempted to keep it to ourselves. But The Cock and Bottle’s eponymous roasted pork belly with goose fat potatoes, savoy cabbage, celeriac purée and apple sauce is up there with the best of them. In fact everything that makes for a perfect Sunday is found in these four walls.

From the outside you could be fooled into thinking this is a pub for a quick pint after work. The less than ample wooden stools and round tables exhausted by more than two rounds don’t scream comfort but it all adds to the charm. Or make a beeline for the outer tables or sporadic leather chairs for the best seats in the house.

With local ales and a strong wine list you’ve found the perfect accompaniments to work your way through the seasonal, hearty menu. With mackerel and crispy ham bruschetta, fillet of sea bass, grilled bavette and smoked salmon fish cakes, chef James Howarth knows exactly how to keep his crowd happy.
