We shed a tear when we heard that Rex & Mariano, the master small plate fish restaurant in Soho’s centre, had been closed down but Zelman Meats stands in its place. In fact they’ve just diverted attention from fish to meat. We like their thinking. Simple but effective is what the guys who brought us Burger & Lobster do best and our first thought was, ‘How has nobody thought of this before?’. The restaurant depends on the cooking techniques for alternative cuts of meat; ribs, brisket, chateaubriand, with a view of delivering on flavour and substance and a hearty Sunday lunch which is an exciting new venture for the team.
We hope they keep their table iPad ordering idea avoiding the need to wait for your waiter or waitress to return if a side dish suddenly takes your fancy (however the staff are still very much present and on hand to help, mind, as we were afraid human interaction had been overlooked). This is a fun, reliably excellent night out. Be careful of over-ordering as sharing plates tend to add up but with no menu and exciting new tastes to try we’d keep going. You can always roll home.
