Having transformed the Welsh countryside with their renowned Felin Fach Griffin, Charles & Tom turned their attentions to the Cornish coast opening The Old Coastguard in Mousehole. The Old Coastguard couldn’t be a better spot for a romantic trip to the seaside, with sea views as far as the eye can see to St Michael’s Mount and the Lizard and the artists’ studios of St Ives and Penzance a short drive away. The food? Exceptional. With the fish nearly leaping straight onto your plate from the trawlers that arrive in Newlyn from their daily fishing trips you’d forgive head chef Matt Smith if he’d kept things simply fishy but pheasant sausage, pork loin and slow cooked lamb shoulder also feature for the meat-lovers. It’s everything you could want from a weekend away.
