Hotel Endsleigh gives a whole new meaning to the word romance. The gardens were designed over 200 years ago so expect to stumble upon secluded spots for picnics or spontaneous trysts. Not that we’d encourage that of course. Clothes should be kept firmly on whilst pottering about in the grounds (behind closed doors is another matter entirely).
There are stables nearby to enjoy a ride on Dartmoor or leave your lady friend fawning over the interiors and head off for a spot of fishing. Roll-top baths, hand-painted walls and roaring log fires run throughout. Never did Farrow & Ball look so good. There are two dining rooms to choose from, a 24-hour honesty bar and babysitting and listening services can be arranged for you to truly switch off whilst the kids are in bed.
Make sure to visit in the Summer for high teas in the garden and drawn-out evening meals. Even well-behaved dogs are welcome so extend your stay and head for the week.
