Pack your wellies. We’re off to the Cotswolds. The Swan Inn in Swinbrook has featured in Downton Abbey which would be quite enough for us, but add to that fact that it’s owned by the last surviving Mitford sister, and it gives it some serious historical gravitas.
The bedrooms ooze character; whether staying in the gorgeous Riverside bedrooms or in the converted stone stables next door, any of their 11 bedrooms would suffice, delivering quintessential countryside views out over the River Windrush (yes really) and waking up an astonishingly good full English.
This is Cotswold heaven with cycles delivered to your door, shooting lessons or lap days behind the wheels of an Aston Martin. Once you’re over the activities or a spot of shopping in nearby Burford, you can tuck into the hearty menu (stacked full of local produce) and wake up to a pampering session at the nearby spa. They’ve been known to find David Cameron chomping down on a pint of prawns in the bar so be sure to pack your glad rags. You never know who you might bump into here.
