Tucked away up a cobbled side street you’ll find this charming, centuries-old pub a stark contrast to the chi-chi shops a short stroll away on Hampstead High Street. The Holly Bush is a 200-year-old former coaching inn ghat welcomes you in with various nooks and roaring log fires, perfect for a long lunch after a stroll round the heath. Seasonal ingredients rule and although the classics rule (we enjoyed one of the best beer-battered fish and chips we ever did eat) it’s the rare finds of ossobucco with saffron and parmesan barley that leave the lasting impression. Pies are baked with home-made flaky pastry, sausages hail from the award-winning Hampshire producer Robert Owton and the soups are freshly made, changing on a daily basis to suit the changing seasons.
