It may be a little harder to find than some, but the Bird in Hand is one of those pubs that’s worth tracking down. It reminds us of long weekends in the country estate, tucked away from sight, a short walk from Olympia. Mis-matched chairs, stripped back timber and brightly coloured furnishings all help give this pub an incredibly warm and welcoming feel to all those that visit.
Dog-friendly, child-friendly, in-law friendly – the East Hill boasts a sophisticated pub menu. They serve ‘small plates’ and recommend 2-3 per person; Burrata with grilled peach and almonds, confit duck terrine and braised octopus with squid ink aioli will pretty much cover every food preference from all the family. But we go here for the pizzas which are cooked in a traditional pizza oven.
It’s also lovely on a summer’s day when you can sit outside catching some rays with a pint in hand. Perfection.
