The Avalon is one of those rare Clapham gems that offers a great boozer but also a rather inviting menu. Much as we love the Northcote road bars they are slightly indistinguishable after a few drinks. With three gardens, pub quizzes, an event space upstairs if you’re so inclined: it’s no wonder we haven’t moved in. Plus the menu offers a quirky brunch option with smoked cod scotch eggs featuring alongside the more expected scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. For lunchtime you can expect a whopping sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, real ale battered hake and chips, artisan pizzas, in fact all the classics to keep the whole family happy. For those with younger children they know how to keep a frazzled set of parents happy providing highchairs, baby changing facilities and kid’s menus. They even welcome NCT groups who are delighted to find a place to settle on a sofa of an afternoon surrounded by other new parents.
