Merchants Tavern

Merchants Tavern is our little piece of heaven in the ‘no reservation’ surroundings of Shoreditch. Angela Hartnett always offers up beautifully crafted dished but with options to share mains with your other half means you can feel ‘as one’ at this City haunt. Hipster edge interiors (think American Psycho chic mixed with the comfort of drinking at the ‘Cheers’ bar – it’s a former Victorian warehouse and apothecary) shouldn’t scream romance but the low-lighting surroundings of this booth-laden restaurant lends itself to cuddling up and tucking in. Deep fried oysters to start with succulent rump steaks to follow, or share the Cote de Bouef with your beloved, either way you’ll have the found the way to each other’s heart by the end of supper. Find a reason to visit for their excellent set lunch menu as well where wild garlic soup with smoked cods roe and roasted leg of lamb can all be polished off for a mere £20. Trust us, you’ll want to find any excuse to return to work your way through the menu.
