Retreat to the Cotswolds
The Painswick has much to be proud of. Securing the recent accolade of The Sunday Times ‘Hotel of the Year’ in 2016 is no mean feat. Carefully created under the watchful eyes of the Calcot Collection who looks after luxurious Barnsley House and Calcot Manor, it’s no surprise that The Painswick has proved quite so popular. Having (thankfully) renovated away the previous ‘funky’ interiors, the new Farrow & Ball paintwork, roaring fires and rustic log baskets suddenly speak volumes of what a stay in the Cotswold should be, and boy, did they get it right.
With 16 gorgeous bedrooms – ‘Small’, ‘Medium’, ‘Big’ and ‘Bigger’ – a pamper at the Painswick is serious value for money. You can expect roll-top baths in the ‘Bigger’ rooms and the Deluxe ‘George’s Suite’ boasts a Romeo and Juliet balcony. They’ve also added a touch of genius with two treatment rooms which have been designed by Calcot Spa, Finally, a reasonable hotel where we can still spoil ourselves with a spa treatment.
Staying in the heart of the Cotswold countryside delivers a host of pastimes to keep you busy. Cycling is taken seriously with a 75 mile route to burn off those cakes. Or walk around the Arboretum and the local food markets (nearby Stroud is one of the best in the country). Back at the hotel, their restaurant offers a fantastic afternoon tea making the Painswick the perfect weekend destination.
The Painswick are currently offering midweek rates from £149 Room Only in May and June. Mensos Concierge guests will also each receive a complimentary upgrade where available.
