Hot Hotel Openings

From Riviera retreats to luxury new hotels in Manhattan , here’s our guide to the hot hotel openings of 2017.

This brand-new hotel on the French Riviera opened in early May. Set on the glorious Provencal coast between Saint Tropez and Cannes, the hotel has been designed by renowned architecture firm Festen to transform to nautical-modernist lines overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. With a stunning natural seawater swimming pool, diving and snorkelling to keep you busy, this is barefoot luxury at its best. Eat your way through the two restaurants and three bars on the property or explore locally. In fact, the real bonus is that you’ll feel totally secluded whilst still having the South of France on your doorstep. Saint-Raphael is teeming with activities (most of them sea-focussed) and is a 10-minute drive away or you can head to St Tropez by boat, an hour and 15 minutes.

Awarded the ‘Local Hotel Hero’ at Mr & Mrs Smith’s 2016 Hotel Awards, 11 Howard combines modern Danish design with sleek lounge spaces, a French restaurant and an in-demand bar. This iconic New York building was once a post office. Now been transformed with swirling blue mural covering the entire side of the building on arrival. The hotel has over 200 bedrooms, not that you’d notice – the hotel has been artfully designed to feel like a home-away-from (stylish) home. The hygge-filled co-working space in the Library is a study-like setting for cheeky nightcaps. Grab the arched window seats in the bar for the best people watching over Howard Stret. Or cosy up on gorgeous armchairs for breakfast in the Library. The mod-French restaurant Le Coucou is spectacular and the Blond bar transforms into a nightclub after 9pm. The service, the interiors, the food – the hotel showcases true understated perfection. The ideal base for a few days in New York.

Instead of  that find themselves set that bit back from the shoreline, hidden up in the hills away from view. Instead, this beachfront access puts Nobu Hotel on the hot list for the summer of 2017. Add to that their four restaurants and they’re now playing with the big boys. Set within 400 acres of beautiful, privately owned Surrey countryside, Beaverbook is one hell of a country-house hotel. This eccentric property was once home to press baron and owner of Express Newspaperes, Lord Max Beaverbrook, and is a short train ride or less than an hour’s drive from London. Unsurprisingly, the hotel is immersed in history and has been under an extensive £90 million transformation for the past few years. Having recently opened the 11-bedroom Garden House – with cookery school and 18-hole golf course – Beaverbrook’s extensive spa is set to be finished by early 2018 with indoor and outdoor pools, treatment rooms and a sauna and steam room to boot. With a further six Glass House suites to be completed before the end of August 2017, it’s a welcome relief that we finally have a world-class spa hotel on our doorstep.
