THE NEW FOREST
FOREST RETREAT WITH USE OF LUXURY SPA
£2,100 (based on a family of 4 for a 2-night stay)
You’d be forgiven for expecting Lime Wood hotel and spa to be a touch grand. But despite an imposing Regency exterior, this is an informal (if luxurious) home-from-home. You could stay in Forest Cottage; a self-contained, two-storey cottage with a kitchenette, dining and living area with log fire. The main bedroom has a four-poster bed and there is a bunk room for the kids. Set in 145 square miles within the the New Forest, you can expect to see ponies, donkeys and pigs and deer still roam freely. There’s a wonderful swimming pool, hydrotherapy and steam pools in the Herb House Spa. There’s also a pioneering raw food café, a mud house and state of the art gym. Everything you need for a weekend away.
SELF-CATERED WITH USE OF SPA FACILITIES

Home Farm Cottage is a three-bedroom self-catering detached house and gardens a few hundred yards from Barnsley House (a country house hotel in a Grade II listed manor house). With a master bedroom with roll top bath, twin bed options and two downstairs lounge rooms, the gorgeous Cotswold kitchen is also well-equipped. They provide you a breakfast hamper which includes fresh milk, eggs and bread. With 11 acres of grounds there’s stacks to do. Make use of Barnsley’s tennis court and bikes or arrange polo lessons and clay pigeon shooting nearby. Daylesford Farm Shop is also a 35-minute drive away. However most guests visit for the spa. With an outdoor heated hydrotherapy pool, herbaceous sauna and steam room, you might never want to leave.
UNIQUE COTTAGE A SHORT DRIVE FROM SOHO FARMHOUSE

It’s hard to describe the level of workmanship and care that has gone into this recently renovated cottage in the Cotswolds. A labour of love for the private owner, Ivy Cottage looks like it belongs on a film set (for those who are fans of The Holiday, welcome to your heaven). This quintessential Cotswolds property has two luxury bedrooms, each with their own en-suite bathroom. The larger bedroom also has a fabulous deep copper bath at the foot of the bed. The large kitchen/diner has ample space for up to 6 guests and supper will be a breeze with the range cooker. Your stay comes with luxury bedding and linen, Nespresso, WIFI, Sky Q and Netflix. Beckford’s ‘Splendens Pavilions’ are two contemporary, luxury lodges a mere 15-minute stroll from the impeccable Beckford Arms in Tinsbury. Sitting on Fonthill Estate’s original 19th century accommodation – which once played host to Byron and Nelson – you’ll be in fine company. This adults-only accommodation boasts a bedroom and rolltop bath on the mezzanine which overlooks your sitting room with wood-burning stove. Head out to explore the 14th century Wardour Castle with a picnic, learn how to fly fish or ride a horse. Or hop in the car for the 20-minute drive to Longleat. Either way, you might enjoy the welcome respite from the kids for a night or two.
